Let's make investing in Newham's children the priority for 2010.
Dear...
Every child should get an equal start in life, wherever they grow up. Yet Newham
schools are funded over £1,000 less per child than schools in neighbouring boroughs
Hackney and Tower Hamlets, even though all three boroughs have similar costs
and levels of deprivation.
Newham teachers and other school staff are doing their absolute best with the
resources they have, reflected in the fact that the borough achieves in the top 50% of
all London boroughs in educational attainment at age 16. But with the increased funding
the schools deserve, Newham children will have the resources to achieve even more.
By acting now, while a schools funding review is taking place, you can help to change
this. As my local MP, please write to the Rt Hon Dawn Primarolo and the Rt Hon Vernon
Coaker, asking them to make investing in Newham's children their priority for 2010. Ask
them to ensure the Formula Review Group change the way school funding is calculated,
to give Newham schools funding that is more in line with neighbouring boroughs.
Now more than ever we can't forget about supporting children.
