Brief Description:
Parent Champions offer peer support and information to parents to increase take-up of childcare and available help for costs. The project has involved pilots in the London boroughs of Camden, Newham and Tower Hamlets. It has supported and trained parents, who then spend a few hours a week doing outreach to other parents about their experiences of childcare, informing them about local Family Information Services and other further sources of information and advice. The aim has been to reach out to families who are not accessing childcare information and may be missing out on services and financial support. This is either due to lack of awareness on where to find information or misinformed assumptions regarding childcare.
Outcomes:
Following the pilots, a toolkit has now being developed which will be available on the DCSF and Daycare Trust website around May 2009.
Running Time:
01/10/2007 to 14/05/2009 - running for 591 days.
