Support A Recession Recovery Package For Children And Families

Let's make investing in Newham's
children the priority for 2010.

Dear...

No child should have to go without a warm winter coat or a pair of winter shoes. Yet the costs of school clothing cut deep into the budgets of Newham families, leaving many kids to go without.

Even before the recession, over fifty thousand children were growing up in struggling families across Newham - more children than in any other London borough. Now rising unemployment and cuts in working hours are pushing hundreds more families and their children towards poverty and debt. A school clothes grant for families without work will help keep many out of debt when the extra costs arise.

As my local councillor, please write to the Mayor of Newham and ask him to make investing in Newham's children his priority for 2010. Ask him to offer more support for families struggling with the costs of school by providing a school uniform grant of £50 to help children in workless families get kitted out for school.

Now more than ever we can't forget about supporting children.

Yours sincerely
