End Child Poverty responds to the Welfare Reform Green Paper - 21st of Jul, 2008
Hilary Fisher, Director, End Child Poverty Campaign, said today:
“The Government is continuing to show its bold commitment to maintaining the target to eradicate child poverty, which is welcome, as is the child maintenance disregard.
“But there is real concern at the proposed increases in conditionality. What people vitally need are decent, sustainable jobs and an increase in the minimum wage.
“To reach the target of halving child poverty by 2010 the Government must invest the much-needed additional £3 billion in tax credits and benefits. Until it can do that, millions of children will continue to face a bleak future.”
