Welfare reform and work bill

The government is discussing a welfare reform and work bill, which would repeal the existing Child Poverty Act and Strategy, and replace it with a Life Chances Strategy. This new strategy would measure educational attainment and worklessness, but not income or levels of poverty. End Child Poverty is asking the government to keep measuring income – this is particularly important given that 63% of children in poverty are in working households. The government must not ignore child poverty. You can read our briefing to MPs here. ECP Briefing for MPs on the Welfare Reform and Work Bill
